A garden wouldn’t be a garden without a variety of plants to make the area lush and green. There are many different types of plants to choose from, all of which contribute something of beauty to a garden. The types of plants chosen for any one garden generally depend on the zone, the time of year the seeds are being planted and the personal preferences of those who will be enjoying the resulting plants.
Many gardeners make use of shrubs for their size and ease of maintenance. Most shrubs need little care but the occasional trim, and they provide a beautiful backdrop for smaller plants and flowers. There are also flowering shrubs that provide the same coverage as a shrub but also flower. Hydrangeas and azaleas are popular flowering shrubs that can be used as backdrop bushes or as stand-alone plants for any area of the yard.
The placement of trees in the garden is important, as the trees will provide shade and beauty for decades to come. The number of trees often depends on the size of the garden, but some people do prefer to have a shady garden rather than a few sporadic trees. The placement of the trees should reflect the amount of shade desired for the garden as well as the amount of privacy desired. Trees are excellent sound insulators that can block traffic noises while shielding a home from prying eyes.
Some gardeners like planting fruit trees for their beautiful looks as well as the fruit that the trees will produce. With some fruit trees, two or more trees are needed for cross pollination. Fruit trees can provide you with fresh fruit year after year with minimal maintenance.
Everyone enjoys flowers in their yard, and there are enough types that anyone can find countless flowering plants that will appeal to them. Some people choose flowers based on their colors, others on the heartiness of the plants. Others prefer to plant only perennials so that flowers won’t have to be planted the next year. Others prefer annuals so that different types of flowers can be chosen and planted each year. All of these types flourish well in a garden and add to the beauty of the surroundings.
Roses are one of the most popular types of flowers grown in gardens. There are shrub roses, rose vines and rose bushes, and thousands of types in all. There are so many types that there are colors, sizes and petal arrangements to suit anyone who appreciates roses. Gardeners can grow any number of red, yellow, white, pink, purple or orange roses with the right care. Some roses even have two or more colors in the same bloom.
Other popular garden plants are herbs of various types. Herbs are perfect plants for a garden for a number of reasons. Many herbs are extremely aromatic green plants and are enjoyable simply for their smell. They also provide fresh, delicious herbs for cooking any time they are needed. They are also hearty plants that are easy to grow and to maintain.
In any garden, having a variety of flowers and plants will give the garden a depth that will make it enjoyable to look at every day. Large plants and small will create an interesting visual contrast. And as the seasons change, the various trees, flowers and green plants will change along with them so that no month ever looks the same in your garden. To further enhance this feature, many people choose flowers that bloom during different seasons so that every month of the year something beautiful will be in bloom.
