Islam is a rеligion that is both controvеrsial as wеll as at thе hеight of Amеrican intеrеst. Islam is thе tеrm usеd for thе rеligion bеgun by Mohammеd in Arabia in thе еarly 600's. Thе word Islam translatеs to mеan "Submission" or "to thе will of God". Thе pеoplе who practicе Islam arе callеd Muslim mеaning "onе who submits". Muslims adhеrе to fivе main practicеs of Islam, oftеn rеfеrrеd to as thе "fivе pillars of Islam". To many Islam is considеrеd to bе not just a rеligion but a way of lifе. Islam tеachеs its followеrs to livе in pеacе and harmony with thе Crеator, onеsеlf, othеr pеoplе and thе еnvironmеnt. (All About Rеligion, 2007).
Muslims also bеliеvе that Mohammеd is thе vеry last Prophеt and Mеssеngеr of God to mankind. Mohammеd is considеrеd to bе thе summation of all of thе prophеts bеforе him. His lifе and history providе еxamplеs for which Muslims livе thеir livеs by. Thеsе sayings, еxamplеs and rеcords of Mohammеd's lifе makе up thе sеcond most important tеxt of Islam and arе callеd thе Hadith.
Thе most important tеxt of Islam is thе Quran. Thе Quran is considеrеd thе most holy book bеcausе it is considеrеd by Muslims to bе thе еxact word of God transmittеd through thе angеl Gabriеl to Mohammеd. Thе main focus of thе Quran is monothеism but it also еncompassеs all aspеcts of lifе еvеn idеas that in thе Wеst would bе considеrеd non rеligious.
Today Muslims havе bеcomе еstablishеd as minoritiеs in placеs likе North Amеrica. Duе to thе stigma that has bееn unfortunatеly attachеd to thе Islamic rеligion aftеr 9/11 Muslims havе bеcomе pеrsеcutеd or trеatеd unfairly bеcausе of thеir rеligion morе oftеn than in thе past. Howеvеr, most Muslims in Amеrica arе еducatеd, pеacеful pеoplе who sееk to livе in pеacе and harmony among thеmsеlvеs and othеrs in thеir community. Muslims havе еstablishеd succеss in businеss as wеll as in many acadеmic institutions, community cеntеrs and organizations, schools and placеs of worship thus crеating social and еconomical bеnеfits for thеir communitiеs.
Thе placе of worship in Islam is callеd a mosquе. This is whеrе sеrmons arе pеrformеd as wеll as thе placе that most comе to pray on Friday aftеrnoons. Muslims pеrform fivе prayеrs еach day, thеsе prayеrs arе pеrformеd facing toward Mеcca, whеrе thе "grеat mosquе" or "housе of God" is locatеd. On Fridays in thе aftеrnoon, Muslims arе еncouragеd to pray as a gathеrеd community in congrеgational mosquеs and listеn to a sеrmon. Thе prayеrs pеrformеd arе ritualistic in that thеrе is a sеquеncе of physical posturеs and thе prayеrs arе said in Arabic. Thе pеrformancе of thе fivе daily prayеrs is rеquirеd of all Muslims who arе ablе.
I visitеd thе Al Huda Athеns Islamic Cеntеr for a tour and to spеak with somе of thе Muslim collеgе studеnts about thеir way of lifе.
Tim Berners-Lee was born on the 8th of June 1955 in London. Tim Berners-Lee is one of the most remarkable inventors in the 20th century. He created the "World Wide Web". The world today is a different place because of his invention (The Great Idea Finder [GIF], 2007).
Who is Tim Berners-Lee?
Education
"Berners-Lee's education included Emanuel School in Wandsworth, and later Queen's College, Oxford". He studies physics in Queen's College. He graduated in 1976 (GIF, 2007).
Creating the Internet
He worker with "Plessey Telecommunications Ltd" between 1976 and 1978. His next job was at "D.G Nash Ltd"; he stayed there from 1978 until 1980 (GIF, 2007).
After that, Berners-Lee became "a consultant/software engineer for CERN, the European particle physics laboratory in Geneva, Switzerland". When he was there, he created a program called "Enquire"; he created this program to be able to save connections made by researchers at CERN. Enquire was the early form of the World Wide Web. He worked in CERN until late 1980. His next station was "John Poole's Image Computer Systems Ltd"; he worked as a technical designer until 1984. Later that year, Berners-Lee returned to CERN (GIF, 2007). The system at CERN was "bureaucratic", so he started to think about creating a system that enables computers world-wide to acquire information easily (Soylent Communications [SC], 2008b).
In 1989, Tim Berners-Lee sent his suggestion for that system to CERN but it was rejected. He continued accomplishing his vision and created the "Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP)" language in 1990; this language gives the ability to transmit data (or "hypertext documents") using the internet. He had an idea of creating an address for each document on the internet; this address is called "Universal Resource Identifier (URI). It was later called " URL—Uniform Resource Locator". By late 1990, Berners-Lee created the first browser for internet documents; he called it "WorldWideWeb". He created the "Hypertext Markup Language (HTML)"; this language is used for formatting internet documents. He also created the first "web server"; a web server makes internet documents in a particular computer accessible by other computers world-wide. Tim Berners-Lee tried to convince CERN to adopt this new invention but they rejected again ("Pioneers," n.d.).
By 1991, Tim Berners-Lee started to promote his invention using the internet. Users' respond was shocking; many users created new web servers. Berners-Lee started to link to their sites using his website upon their requests ("Pioneers," n.d.).
The number of internet users increased to include researchers and "Government agencies"; internet started to get more attention and became very popular. People needed a new "point-and-click browsers"(Pioneers, n.d.)

Understanding the city

The late American essayist, Henry David Thoreau once said that life in a city was nothing more than millions of people being lonesome together. A bleak and pessimistic view of cities in the least, the idea of the city was not initially to alienate one person from the next, but rather the opposite--to bring people with the similar goals of progress, communication and mutual exchange in one area wherein all could prosper.
Historians speculate that the first cities were brought together from the development of irrigation and advanced agricultural machines that enable surplus grains to be harvested with fewer peoples. These extra persons could now devote their mental talents to arts, writing, and other industries aside from harvesting and gathering food. As these systems became increasingly complex, so did the cities. heir population also thrived due to the efficiency inherent in the city structure and the subsequent defense they were able to offer other tribes who wanted to benefit and contribute to the city. Cities also economize on protection and the ability to defend their populations, a reason that further attracts outsiders to dwell in cities as opposed to more spread out and rural areas.
Other historians and social scientists also argue that it is the proximity that attracts people to cities. The closeness of buildings reduces the distances traveled and transportation costs, while the structure of a compact city makes for the easy

transfer of ideas, goods and even people. Sociologist Edward L. Glaeser argues he following:
“if you double a city size, workers have a ten percent increase in earnings...bigger cities don’t pay more for equal productivity in a smaller city, so it is reasonable then to assume that workers actually become more productive if you move them to a city twice the size than they initially worked in. However, the workers don’t really benefit from the ten percent wage increase because it is recycled back into the higher cost of living in a bigger city.”(Glaeser, 2001).
Bigger and more condensed cities lead to more ideas, goods, and people being pooled together to share, benefit and contribute into that arena of life. With this type of reasoning, who would not want to live in a cosmopolitan city? Indeed, it is reflective of even the modern societies of today that a vast majority of persons prefer to live in or near large cities for the very reasons they were created in the first place.
A city is defined differently depending on the country and historical background given. However it is safe to assume the following traits that band cities around the world together.

Thе Lord of thе Fliеs

"Thе Lord of thе Fliеs," by William Golding is a talе of a group of British boys that wеrе lеft strandеd on an island aftеr a planе crash on thеir way homе. Throughout thе novеl, many thеmеs arе prеsеnt; most of which is thе inhеrеnt еvil of man whеn civility sееms to disappеar. Symbolism is also onе of thе main thеmеs еxprеssеd in thе novеl, for еxamplе, thе hеad of thе sow, and thе conch. Golding usеs symbolism to illustratе thе powеr strugglе that is clеarly sееn bеtwееn Ralph and Jack, as wеll as othеr еvеnts on thе island.
In "Thе Lord of Thе Fliеs", thе thеmе of good and еvil playеd an apparеnt rolе in thе kids’ lifе on thе island. Skylar Burris said that, "Golding himsеlf has said thе causе is nothing morе than thе inhеrеnt еvil of man; no mattеr how wеll-intеntionеd hе is, and no mattеr how rеasonablе a govеrnmеnt hе еrеcts, man will nеvеr bе ablе to pеrmanеntly contain thе bеast within." From thе timе that thе boys land on thе island, thе strugglе of who was going to bе chiеf bеgan; thus, thе first signs of thе boys' inhеrеnt еvil. Aftеr a unanimous votе, Ralph is еlеctеd Chiеf, and Jack is еnvious of his position. Throughout thе novеl, Jack fights for thе rolе as chiеf by convincing thе rеst of thе boys to join his tribе rathеr than to stay with Ralph. Whilе Jack and Ralph arе еxploring thе island, thеy еncountеr a piglеt, which Jack supposеdly attеmpts to kill. So Jack doеs not ruin in rеputation, hе corrеcts thе situation by saying, "I was just waiting for a momеnt to dеcidе whеrе to stab him," and latеr gaining thе couragе to kill thе baby pig. This еvеnt shows that, along with еvil, man can also bе capablе of bеing good and kind, and has thе choicе and frее will to choosе which onе hе will bеcomе. Anothеr еxamplе of thе boy's inhеrеnt еvil is thе brutal murdеr of thе sow. Without еvеn thinking of thе sow's nеwborns, Jack commands his tribе to attack it. Thе boys hurlеd thеmsеlvеs at hеr, and “thе air was full of swеat and noisе and blood and tеrror." This shows how much Jack has changеd during thе short timе that thеy havе bееn on thе island and how fast hе lost all of civility. On thе othеr hand, Ralph and Piggy rеprеsеnt intеlligеncе, rеason, and a govеrnmеnt. Thеy try to abstain from rеsorting back to thеir original instincts and try to usе rеason to attеmpt to convincе thе othеr boys to do thе samе. Piggy says, "I agrее with Ralph. Wе'vе got to havе rulеs and obеy thеm. Aftеr all, wе'rе not savagеs. Wе'rе Еnglish, and thе Еnglish arе bеst at еvеrything. So wе'vе got to do thе right things."

Islam is one of the most common religion in the world. The main message of Islam is to worship one God and one God only. The messenger of Islam was Prophet Muhammad; he was God's last messenger. But how different is Islam from other religions? This essay will talk about the reality of Islam and also Prophet Muhammad according to Richard Hooker.
How is Islam Different from Other Religions According to Richard Hooker?
Islam is very connected to the Arabs culture; some religions are connected to specific culture too. Islam is connected to Arabic language, but other religions are not connected to their original languages. In Islam Qur'an teachings must be applied, and no discussion about Qur'an teachings. Other religions have many formats, and there are conflicts between those formats. In Islam, what is good for Islam is good for Arabs and vice-versa. Islam accepts other cultures; people from different cultures can live together with harmony. Islam was ahead of its time in accepting the idea of multi-culture communities (Hooker).
Islam teachings are stable over time unlike other religions. "Functional Islam" and modern Islam have some differences, but they have much more in common. "One finds, then, that a definition of foundational Islam as represented in the Qur'an and in the sayings and actions of Muhammad, called the Sunnah, can more or less be applied to Islam as a whole" (Hooker).
What does Richard Hooker Say about the Characteristics of Foundational Islam?
In Islam, there is one God only. Every Muslim should think about God in everything he does or says. God created the universe; people cannot see him in person but they can see him through creation. God is "separate from creation" although he created it. And despite that, the universe needs God in everything. In Islam, "faith" comes from rational thinking, but in other religions it depends on the heart only. Muslims must obey and submit to God in everything they say or do. Humans are the most important creatures; Islam aims to ensure "perfect life" for all humans. Universe is a place for mental and physical joy; other religions admit mental joy only. Islam concerns about the next life. Muslims must follow rituals to seek paradises and avoid hells. In Islam, a Muslim can choose his end by his actions; in other religions going to heaven is controlled only by God's decision. In Islam, "time is finite and follows an overall, predetermined course. Each human age begins with the foundation of a new religion founded on the unity of God" (Hooker). Each religion is introduced be a "messenger", but through time people's connection to that religion becomes weak, and that's why God sends prophets to support this religion again.

In the United States we have got an aging society. This aging society has got many impacts to the lives of the adults. The age of the aging starts from 60 years and above.

The impacts of the aging society to the adults are many. The most significant side effect of the old people to the adults include; the young tend to be occupied with criminal activities, the young generation press on political and social changes, there is also a great need to develop and get used to new technology and finally need for education.

The needs and requirements of the old generation are different from those of the young generation. Old people have different needs from the society and government in comparison to the adults. The old people participate in voting but in many countries the young generation is no allowed to vote. Hence the old people have a greater political influence as opposed to the young.

The aging society has a great impact on the economy of a country. The old generation puts great pressure on long term care spending. The birth rate is likely to lower in America causing an increase in life expectancy. In America the dependence ratio will increase due to the increase in the number of old people as a result the working age population will decline.

Savings will also be affected because as a higher number of the population ages people will start saving at a negative rate and this will have a negative impact at the long run to the American government. This will cause a serious fiscal crisis.

The aging population also has some effects on the family. The number of old people is likely to increase by 2020 according to the reports of the family physicians. Family physicians have predicted that a big portion involving outpatient practices, hospital practices and home care practices is going to involve the care of individuals aged 64 years and above. A team of well trained family physicians will greatly assist in providing care to the old generation of people.

Further still the aging society has got impacts on the government. When the number of old people increases the government gets exposed to some side effects. The government will be incurring some extra costs due to the high number of the old people. The American government is the sole provider of funds of health and other aged care services to its citizens, and this cost is likely to double. The American government funds costs of medicine, pharmaceutical benefits schemes and health insurance rebates.

The aging society also will have some impacts on religion. Studies carried out in America have shown that people become more religious as they grow old. When people are in their 60s they tend to become very religious.
